The nails are placed temporarily and there is only one out of two.The porters will be 80 threads, so 80 reels on the creel. The ends must be sanded and the holes drilled.I have to get used to this sectional beam, never seen on a Lyon loom ...
September 7, 2017 - Now we need to make a matrix for Jacquard mechanics. It is a very difficult and delicate task. The matrix serves to perforate the Jacquard cardboards.
September 7, 2017 - Now we need to make a matrix for Jacquard mechanics. It is a very difficult and delicate task. The matrix serves to perforate the Jacquard cardboards.
The Jacquard matrix is finished. Certainly there are some flaws but I am undoubtedly the only one in the world, of all time, to have manufactured this tool by hand ...
We will see later how this device is used to perforate the Jacquard cardboards.
This is the beginning of the work that will be continued tomorrow ...
Here are two matrices for Jacquard 104 mechanics.
Of course, as you can see, there is only one treadle on this loom because it is the mechanical Jacquard and its cardboards, which will take care of select the shaft frames to be lifted.
A rope attached to the lower rear crossmember of the loom makes two and a half turns around the warp beam and supports the wooden lever. The latter is fixed, screwed to the foot of the loom, while its other end receives the necessary weights to ensure proper braking of the warp.
September 6, 2017 - Today I manufactured the Roman rocker which is the system that brakes the rear beam by giving the necessary tension to the warp and allowing the automatic winding of the fabric on the front beam of cloth.
September 4, 2017 - As shown above, today I modified the "Savoyard" which is a system to aid in the winding of the fabric on the store beam.
September 3, 2017 - Mechanical 104 is in place. It works...

That's it, she's up the naughty girl ...
Made in Lyon the young lady was born in 1879 ...
A new surprise, the stretcher that will support the Jacquard mechanics at the top of the craft was not long enough and too thick. I had to saw both lengths of 1m50. By hand...
The first upper back key (crosspiece of the loom) is in place and the second will follow.
The modified stretcher is now at the top of the craft. He's waiting for the 104 ...
This loom has a so-called "Savoyard" winding system. The Savoyard is a 40 cm pulley attached to the end of the magazine roller, located at the bottom of the loom, at the front. More in the assembly of the craft I will explain to you this "Savoyard" system of winding the fabric. The problem that arises is illustrated in the photos above. The Savoyard is in position 1 while it should be in position 2 in order to function. In position 1, it is under the tablet of the loom while in position 2 its vertical is clear. Now, as we shall see later, a rope of hemp of 12 mm is wound two turns on the pulley that is actually the Savoyard. The rope then ascends vertically to the top of the frame. For the moment we see that in position 1 the rope that would be wound around the Savoyard could not climb to the top of the loom while it is possible in position 2.
The reason is that this roll is too short for this loom of about 19 cm.
There are two possible solutions:
1 / - Extend the axis of the roll by 19 cm to position the Savoyard 19 cm more left, in position 2 instead of 1.2- Fabricate then add a second Savoyard (position 2) by fixing it to the one in position 1.
Solution 1 requires skill in arc welding that I do not sufficiently master. I therefore opt for solution 2.

Tonight most of the squares are laid. It's solid, it will not fall ...
These brackets purchased from Brico-Truc are very solid but very poorly designed. I am obliged to modify them with the angle grinder to be able to then drill holes bigger than the original holes allowing only the use of ridiculous screws ...
A mallet, a grater, a chisel and a hand saw as the only equipment to make tenons and mortises is not easy ...
I made the low back cross beam that was missing from the loom
What a fright! It does not slide and I have to hit hard with a rubber mallet. It's pretty scary, but ultimately no breakage. The batten is finally mounted on the top floor. Phew ...
The dimensions :
Maximum length of a comb in the leaf: 56.30"
Maximum weaving width: 53.54"
Overall length of the loom: 111.42"
Overall width of the loom: 91.73"
Frame height: 77.56"
Overall height with Jacquard mechanism: 133.86"
August 28, 2017 - It's not easy to assemble the frame of the trade alone. The different elements are heavy and unstable, the balance precarious as long as they are not bolted ...
I disassemble the batten. He refuses to go upstairs by the inner staircase turning ... Colored red, the part I try to remove. One of the two sides resists.
August 27, 2017 - To begin, here is the sketch of the building of a Lyon loom. It is very simple. There is:
- The two front legs
- The two rear legs
- The two upper spars at the top of the loom: the "estases" which determine the length of the loom.
- The two upper crosspieces at the top of the loom: the upper "clefs" that determine the width of the loom
- The bottom crosspiece at the bottom of the loom, at the back.
Follow the resurrection of this Jacquard loom ...
He has remained in a cellar for nearly fifty years, as you can see in the photo opposite. The warp, unused was warped in 1963!
Video of the 104 mechanics finally in operation ...
