Rouget de lisle was born in Lons-le-Saunier in 1760.In April 1792, as an engineer, he composed the War Song for the Army of the Rhine. This song, interpreted by the Marseilles federates entering Paris in August 1792, was baptized naturally by the Parisians La Marseillaise. It became the national anthem of France and, as the incarnation of the right of peoples to self-determination, accompanied everywhere in Europe in the nineteenth century the movement of nationalities. Even today, its influence is universal.
