Definition of molded fitting
At this stage of our study, and although we have not described it, we will consider that our "drawing", ie our chain of cartons Jacquard, Vincenzi or Verdol is ready. Indeed, the delicate work of sketching our pattern, then its mapping on grid paper and finally its stitching, ie the stitching (drilling) of the boxes and the embroidering (for the boxes Jacquard and Vincenzi) does not fall within the competence of the weaver. These tasks are entrusted to specialists. We will be able to discover these techniques in other sections of this site.
We have already described Jacquard mechanics. For convenience, the pictures used in this description were those of a Jacquard mechanism with 104 hooks. On a craft shaped, it will most often accompany a large mechanics of fashion. The small 104 will have role to participate in the raising or lowering of the threads in the bottom according to a traditional armor (taffeta, satin, twill, etc ...). It will also support a number of functions such as activating the tissue advance regulator, ringing a bronze bell to warn the weaver that something special has to be done at that moment (changing armor, Iron of velvet, etc ...), or will command the change of shuttles on a case with multiple boxes. A thousand different tasks can be assigned to the 104 to make the weaver's work safer and more comfortable.
To make our design, we will use a bigger mechanical, the most used in Jacquard, Vincenzi or Verdol generally comprising a number of hooks between 652 and 1344 hooks.
We will have the opportunity, on this site to speak, to describe and compare these three brands of mechanics.
For now, with our boxes available, we take care without further delay of our next work that will consist in mounting our craft of fashion. The assembly of the loom, in its first operations described hereinafter, does not necessitate that the chain is ready, that is to say, designed.
The set of cords (arches) which control the links and the wires is called an assembly.
The assembly of a molding requires a set of operations which must be carried out in the following order:
1 / - The knotting, which is the placement of the arches in the cramping boards. This knotting determines the width, density and total number of warp yarns.
2 / - Collating is the attachment of the arcades to the hooks of the mechanical in accordance with an order determined by a collating note.
3 / - The dip consists in suspending the meshes at the arcades by means of a particular temporary node (dip node) which can be quickly adjusted during the next operation of the apparatus.
4 / - The dip is made a few centimeters below the final height. The apparatus consists of adjusting at a definitive height by a very tight knot all the temporary nodes of the dip.We will therefore study each of the editing operations in the following sections of this section.
